Karenza Ebejer

Karenza is a digital storyteller/ filmmaker with a passion for telling unique human-related stories. She has written, directed and produced numerous short films and documentaries, many which have been screened Nationally and Internationally. In 2016, she independently produced and directed a community-engaged music documentary with Australian Cultural Fund Crowdfunding support.

She then successfully received two consecutive rounds of funding to produce short films for ABC iView as part of the Createability series. Her first episode “Tilly’s Symphony” also won a Judges Choice award for Best Documentary at the Focus On Ability Film Festival in Sydney in 2017. These films went on to be shown as part of a package for Virgin Australia inflight entertainment.

Karenza has worked with numerous community organisations as a mentor and storyteller for marginalized groups. She has also produced works with Indigenous artists in many regional parts of Australia which have been shown in galleries and online. Her work with local Bundjalung artist Digby Moran was shown alongside his final exhibition in 2018. She is in development on a collaborative film work with artist Tanya Marlowe which focusses on teaching language to jarjums/ children through puppet stories and songs.

At the start of 2018, Karenza was the recipient of the Director’s Pathway Program funded with support of the Australian Director’s Guild and Screenworks. She is currently in research and development on a longer form documentary exploring her personal journey growing up in a radical Indian spiritual community in the 1980's.

Aside from her own film projects, Karenza has been a screen arts mentor for youth and community groups in various regional locations for the past 16 years. She currently works casually as an Educator at TAFE in the Screen department as well as a casual Project Coordinator at Screenworks.
