Your inspiring teacher Sasha Fox - director of Wild Spice Bellydance (formally The Barefoot Gypsies) will lead through classes focusing on basic lower and upper body movements as well as use of veils, silk fan viels, 25yard skirt and feather fans!

  Located in the unique and lush bellydance studio of WildFox Studios in the heart of Lismore CBD.

  Wear comfortable lightweight clothing, leggings or skirt with hip scarf - dress up with as many jingles as you like! Shimmy belts provided.

  Blinman Slag is an art/science exploration of mining slag waste from the Blinman Copper Mine in the Northern Flinders Ranges of South Australia.

  Examining slag from historical, geological, mineralogical and cultural perspectives, the exhibition by Grayson Cooke explores the strange beauty of mining waste as a window into the enormous forces humankind exerts upon the earth. These forces are immense but frequently rationalised within narratives of technological progress or economic necessity.

  While anti-mining activism uses public action and protest to draw attention to the negative environmental and social effects of resource extraction, this project takes a different approach, seeking new ways to manifest and image the changes wrought upon the earth by human activity.

  Media Studies continues Western Australian artist Bennett Miller’s ongoing thematic interests in human behaviour and in particular the many complicated relationships that exist between humans and the natural world.

  This exhibition is a series of new video works and small sculptures, many of which remix or repurpose an existing aspect of popular culture. One example is an edit of the reality television show Survivor that is chopped down to feature only the moments in which an animal appears on the screen. Similarly, in a series of small kinetic sculptures we see existing media machines rewired to perform repetitive, often redundant tasks. In varying ways and contexts the video and sculptural works are linked thematically by a parody of the ways humans have altered and reinterpreted the environment that surrounds them.

  Local audiences may be familiar with Miller’s work through his five-year presentation of a fake Amish community, Barnraiser which was presented by Lismore Regional Gallery at Splendour in the Grass.

  ‘Sign of the Times’ is the title for the new member’s exhibition at Blue Knob Hall Gallery. As these titles are often chosen the year before, it seems an appropriate theme given the current circumstances in Australia and worldwide. In times of great turmoil, there are often positive signs that come out of it all. We learn more, we become more informed out of necessity and many more people, young and old are speaking out about their future and what’s needed to look after this planet we live on.

   ‘Leaf Matters’ in The Solo Space, is an exhibition by Sue Boardman and Michael Hannan. "Leaf Matters" is a play on words, a springboard for ideas to inform the development of the exhibited works. It can mean topics surrounding leaves; it can refer to the significance of leaves, such as their ability to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere ("Leaves matter."); and it can indicate a mass of leaves ("leaf matter").

  Lore is a series of paintings that explore the function of storytelling in the formation of personal narratives. Essentially, stories consist of archetypes acting as allegories from which one’s life is shaped. When we are ‘in’ the story and playing our parts, it can be difficult to see the broader context of our experiences and relationships with others. This exhibition explores history and memory, the fantastical and sublime, place, and relationships. My creative practice often investigates personal, societal and environmental systems that are in the act of collapse. I am interested in the ‘end of the world’ narrative present in popular culture, world-building, eco-catastrophe, discovery and classification, ideas around the utopia/dystopia binary, and our relationship to the environment.

  Rococo and Colonial are often considered to be disparate, undisputable categories that neatly divide periods of time. This separation offers little opportunity to consider parallel histories — how similar or different things might be happening elsewhere or at the same time.

  RocoColonial examines the overlap between Rococo and Colonial and begins by acknowledging that both can be intrinsically related and link Australia to a wider, speculative world of multiple, concurrent histories. The exhibition features artists and designers, who in their varied practices are destabilising the dream of Australia Felix (the lucky country) and whose material and conceptual language opens up the paradigms of the Rococo and Colonial to contemporary reinterpretation and re-engagement.

  Take home your own unique designed and created 30cm squared lead light stained glass art piece. 

  Start your glass art journey with this beginners lead light course or use this course as a refresher. Held on six consecutive Thursday evenings. This course will help to build your confidence and skill sets when creating with stained glass.

  The course cost includes all materials and the use of tools - art supplies, glass, glass scorers and pliers, lead came, pinta, solder and soldering fluid, putty, polish and safety equipment.

  Skills and techniques includes: working safely in the workshop, design concepts for lead light, glass types, scoring and snapping glass, lead cutting and shaping, soldering, strengthening through design and technique, finishing projects - puttying and polish.
