The launch of The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, the first self-published book by Monica Buscarino, marks a significant milestone in her artistic journey. This evocative publication accompanies her solo exhibition currently on view in Gallery 2. As part of the launch event, Monica will be in conversation with Curator Ineke Dane, offering insights into the creative process behind the work. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore and purchase the book in the Gallery shop.
Created entirely on Country, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is a deeply contemplative body of work. Each image serves as a moment of witness—shaped by the land, its silence, and the stories it holds. Captured across vast and sacred landscapes including Tjoritja // West MacDonnell National Park, Kanku Conservation Park, Mungo National Park, Yeperenye, Umoona // Kupa Piti, Lake Hart, Mparntwe, and Namatjira, the photographs were taken using medium and large format vintage film cameras. Accompanied by typewritten reflections, the book explores the nature of time—its movement, its stillness, and the traces it leaves behind.
This is a celebration of place, memory, and artistic vision—an invitation to experience a powerful and poetic publication.
