Echo Locator Winter ‘Glowing Cross Edition’

The Lismore Quadrangle

110 Magellan Street, Lismore, New South Wales 2480

thequad@lismore.nsw.gov.au

This event honours Lismore’s local legend of the Glowing Cross, an unexplained glowing headstone in the North Lismore Pioneer Cemetery which gained wide attention from scientists and spiritualists alike in the late 1970s, before mysteriously vanishing in the night in 1986, never to be seen again.

Featuring a soul-stirring curation of live music and art from light into night, the ceremony begins with the debut live performance by Lismore duo Peel Island (Family Jordan, Shed). Lismore-based sound/art collective Noise Xhurxh conjure a field of improvised sound ’til last light. Then, Gold Coast post-punk group Speeding Vehicle moves into the evening, before the closing sound and projections by Brisbane electronic artist Abstract Human Radio. The space will be adorned with Adrienne Kenafake’s ‘Cabbage Palm Garden’ plus interlude sounds by Holiday Maker.

Lineup
Live: Abstract Human Radio, Noise Xhurxh, Peel Island, Speeding Vehicle
Installation: ‘Cabbage Palm Garden’ by Adrienne Kenafake.

The Echo Locator live music series, presented by Holiday Maker Records, brings interstate, regional and local artists to the Quad for a series of free and all-ages concerts. Inspired by the process of echolocation, the four seasonal music events will investigate sonic and spatial orientations of the Quad, with each of the themed editions exploring distinct local natural and supernatural phenomena in multi-art formats.
