Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or staying a little longer, walking is one of the best ways to experience the region.
This guide brings together relaxed village strolls and easy nature walks, all within or close to the Lismore region.
Village Strolls
Gentle walks close to town. Perfect for stretching your legs, spotting wildlife and soaking up local atmosphere.
Nimbin Rainbow Walk
Location: Nimbin Village
Duration: 15–20 minutes (750 m)
Grade: Easy / Mostly Accessible
A relaxed, inclusive pathway linking the village to Aquarius Park. Along the way you’ll see colourful artwork and signage reflecting Nimbin’s creative spirit. It’s short, welcoming and suitable for all ages.
Wilsons River Walk
Location: Lismore CBD to Albert Park
Duration: Approx. 3 km return
(longer if combined with Bicentennial Walk)
Grade: Easy
A flat riverside stroll following Wilsons River through parklands and open green space. Interpretive signage shares local stories, and it’s common to see birdlife along the water.
This walk can connect to the Lismore Bicentennial Walk for those wanting to extend their time outdoors.
Lismore Bicentennial Walk
Location: Lismore Golf Club to Robinsons Lookout via Albert Park
Duration: 1–1.5 hours (depending on pace)
Grade: Easy to Moderate (rough sections and a short steep link track)
A much‑loved local walk that passes through bushland and open green corridor. The track is a little rough in places but popular with residents. The short but steep section linking Robinsons Lookout to Albert Park can reward walkers with wildlife sightings, including koalas.

Accessible nature experiences with beautiful scenery and good facilities.
Northern Rivers Rail Trail
Location: Lismore section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail
Duration: Flexible, choose your distance HERE.
Grade: Easy
A wide, shared trail ideal for walking, cycling or a relaxed out‑and‑back wander. The trail passes through scenic countryside and offers an easy way to explore at your own pace.
Birdwing Butterfly Walk
Location: Kadina Street, Goonellabah
Duration: 20–40 minutes
Grade: Easy
A gentle path through rainforest and wetland habitat. With a bit of luck, you may spot the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly. Picnic tables and open spaces make this ideal for families.
Rocky Creek Dam Spillway Walk
Location: Rocky Creek Dam, Dunoon
Duration: 20–40 minutes
Grade: Easy
A very pretty waterside walk with excellent facilities and ample parking. The environment feels calm and expansive, with forest, water views and picnic areas nearby.
Victoria Park Nature Reserve
Location: Dalwood (approx. 20-minute drive from Lismore City)
Duration: 30–60 minutes
Grade: Easy
An accessible rainforest reserve featuring short walking tracks through subtropical vegetation. A peaceful and easy nature experience close to Lismore.
Minyon Falls Lookout Walk
Location: Nightcap National Park
Duration: 30–45 minutes return
Grade: Easy
A short, accessible walk to one of the Northern Rivers’ most iconic views. The lookout reveals Minyon Falls plunging dramatically into the rainforest valley below.
Take your time. Walk gently. And let the landscape do what it does best.
