Duo Aki Eden Annesley and Lola Schuele is a violin, saxophone, shakuhachi and looper duo working at the intersection of Australian and Japanese classical and contemporary music. Their practice is shaped by cross-cultural exchange, close collaboration and a shared commitment to thoughtful, refined musical expression.
Having represented Australia at the 2025 Osaka World Expo, Duo Aki continues to build a distinctive body of work informed by time living and working in Japan. Their music explores narratives of identity and environment, moving across traditions while remaining grounded in strong contemporary practice.
Described as “beautiful, interesting and evocative” by Gina Williams AM and Guy Ghouse AM, Duo Aki offers audiences a listening experience that is textural, nuanced and immersive. Each performance invites attention to detail, space and resonance, rewarding those who enjoy music that unfolds with care and intention.
Beyond performance, Duo Aki works across extending their musical practice into curatorship and collaboration. Recent projects include before/now/after, developed in collaboration with visual artist Monica Vejgaard, reflecting their interest in dialogue between sound, place and visual form.
Come along for a rare opportunity to experience contemporary cross-cultural music in an intimate listening setting at the Con.
