Discover renowned art, dining and shopping experiences in Lismore Laneways - a hidden gem in the centre of our city block!

In the Laneways you can find:

• The Back Alley Gallery - an ongoing community street art project, bringing colour and light into Lismore spaces. The Back Alley Gallery is run by a very small team of volunteers who share a passion for public art and shared spaces, community engagement and inclusivity.
• Beloved public art including "Bundjalung Jagun' artwork by Tania Marlowe, the 'In the Heart' sculpture by local artists Holly Ahern and Eden Crawford-Harriman, and 'The Antechinus Family' by 2021 Brunswick Nature Sculpture Walk winner and installation artist Andrew Cullen. See images of these public artworks below, which were commissioned as part of the Lismore Laneways Project in 2021.
• New opportunities to connect including the Lismore Laneways Community Book Exchange and Listening Booth
• Amazing food, shopping and services, and access to unique arcades linking to the CBD Block.

About the Lismore Laneways Project

The 2021 Lismore Laneways Project was designed to help reinvigorate our inner-city laneways precinct and attract more visitors. This Lismore City Council project was funded through a $510,000 grant, as part of a $1.5 million grant from the NSW Government for the ongoing revitalisation of the Lismore CBD.

Lismore Laneways Project delivery was impacted by the 2022 flood disaster, and is planned for completion and launch later in 2023.

The concept design for the Lismore Laneways Project was created using ideas and feedback from community members and businesses. Local feedback has helped us create a design that reflects community priorities and includes the elements that people most want to see - predominantly greenery, lighting, seating and art installations. Council worked closely with the Back Alley Gallery on Lismore Laneways Project elements, due to their history and activity around the site.

Lismore Laneways Project works included:

• New street furniture installation in Carrington Street and Eggins Lane 
• Artwork installations on Carrington Street and Eggins Lane
• Replacement of existing small bins in Carrington Street with dual bins (waste and recycling) with artworks on the sides
• Installation of decorative lighting in Carrington Street and Eggins Lane
• Landscaping works in Carrington Street
• Installation of retro phone booth “activation pods” in Carrington Street (soon to be completed)
• Installation of wayfinding signage throughout the precinct
• Refresh of existing road pavement paint in Carrington Street
• Planter boxes in Eggins Lane.
